A Christmas gift to our cooperation

The Swedish Library Association decided to give our cooperation this year's Christmas gift. It is a great honour for us and a recognition of all our joint efforts.

Keep your eyes and ears open!

The team leaders will get back to you, in the beginning of 2018, with the conceptualisation of how this gift is going to be shared within the UR Library Services.

Free illustrations

During the anti-plagiarism workshop we brought up illustrations and how important it is to make sure that you have permission to use the pictures you want as illustrations.
In 2015 a blogger made a compilation of places where you can find pictures which are free to use. There you can find many wonderful illustrations. It's usually appreciated if you mention who took the picture (or made the illustration) but it is not always a necessity.

Spotting fake news

The libraries have an important role to play when it comes to teaching our users how to evaluate the sources they find. These days we see more and more fake news circulating and the international Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) has made a poster on how to identify fake news. Feel free to download the poster, print it and share it with your users.

Follow-up of the workshop on e-resources statistics

In July, the UR-Sweden Programme organized a workshop about generating and handling  e-resources usage statistics for the University of Rwanda. Participants were Benilde Mukarubayiza and Bernadette Nyiratunga, who are both members of the E-resources functional committee.
Now it's time for a follow up, where we will look at how to interpret the statistics Benilde and Bernadette have retrieved since the previous workshop.
The workshop took place in Kigali from October 30-31.

Anti-plagiarism workshop November 1st 2017

20 librarians have been invited to a workshop about plagiarism at Gikonde campus and the facilitator will be Anna Stockman from Blekinge Institute of Technology.

Te aim of the workshop is for the participants to get a deeper knowledge of the notion "plagiarism" and to explore the role of the library in avoiding plagiarism at the university.

The workshop consists of three parts:

1) A brief overview of citations and references in academic documents
2) A presentation of what can be considered plagiarism and how it can be avoided
3) A brief overview of how plagiarism is detected and what consequences it can have at UR.

Thashmee Karunaratne at Stockholm University, Sweden, has trained teaching staff at UR in anti-plagiarism and some of the materials developed by her will be used at the workshop.

You who have been invited are most welcome.
